Lullaby
by Josh Groban

Hush now baby, don't you cry
Rest your wings, my butterfly
Peace will come to you in time
And I will sing this lullaby

Know though I must leave, my child
That I would stay here by your side
And if you wake before I'm gone
Remember this sweet lullaby

And all love through darkness
Don't you ever stop believing
With love forlorn
With love you'll find your way
My love

The world has turned the day to dark
I leave this night with heavy heart
When I return to dry your eyes
I will sing this lullaby

Yes I will sing this lullaby
Oooooohhh

Wish #1 has materialized! :D

Still waiting on Wish #2, however...

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

I'd like Nathan Fillion now please.

(That's for the good volunteer(s) granting my wishes.)

Monday, May 21, 2007

I want the new Linkin Park album.

Would anyone like to start granting my every wish? :D
My life has acquired new and wonderful direction. ;)

O heavy hand of fate!
Who now more desolate,
Whose tale more sad than thine, whose lot more dire?

- from Oedipus Rex

Good job, friends.
I like nice people.

If there is one thing in life that I cannot stand, it is a debacle.

I move to abolish debacles.

Second, anyone?

Weight
by Sarah Slean

What did I give to you
What did you give to me
A nothing-trail of silences that warp in the rain
You said I don't really know the reason
It's just not the same
What a vacant breath and when,
When you say my name

And do you know the weight I'm under
When everything revolves around you
Soon the shoulder falls

All forgotten handshakes
Names like falling leaves
Apathy will spread like wildfire
Take you away from me
I'm leaning out the window
Gonna catch the August rain
I'm gonna fill your mouth up
Make you live again

And do you know the weight I'm under
When everything revolves around you
Soon the shoulder falls

Goodness gracious, I love Ms. Slean!
An art gallery! How straightforward! I thought. Within moments someone had been shot (by whom?--I didn't see them) and I held three bars of platinum. Except they weren't really platinum, they were pewter--or so the expert told me--cheap and common. And I was embroiled suddenly in petty but dangerous intrigue that I had not sought.

Today in the biology capstone class we were asked to rank the following items, in order of moral standing, on a continuum with a competent adult human at one end and a rock at the other: a child, a brain-dead adult, a fetus, a dolphin, a dog, an insect, an alien, a bird, a species, and a tree.

It was an impossible task for me; I could not rank them.

Would Wolfowitz try to retain some dignity and just resign already?! Geez!
I think I am doomed to idealism.

Well, you know, in a cynical sort of way.

You know, I used to find Cate Blanchett odd-looking. I have changed my mind.

Never-ending Road (Amhrán Duit)
by Loreena McKennitt

The road now leads onward
As far as can be
Winding lanes
And hedgerows in threes
By purple mountains
And round every bend
All roads lead to you
There is no journey's end.

Here is my heart and I give it to you
Take me with you across this land
These are my dreams, so simple, so few
Dreams we hold in the palm of our hands

Deep in the winter
Amidst falling snow
High in the air
Where the bells they all toll
And now all around me
I feel you still here
Such is the journey
No mystery to fear.

Here is my heart and I give it to you
Take me with you across this land
These are my dreams, so simple, so few
Dreams we hold in the palm of our hands

The road now leads onward
And I know not where
I feel in my heart
That you will be there
Whenever a storm comes
Whatever our fears
The journey goes on
As your love ever nears

Here is my heart and I give it to you
Take me with you across this land
These are my dreams, so simple, so few
Dreams we hold in the palm of our hands

Loreena is even more awe-inspiring in person. All of my years of admiration are now vindicated. Hooray. :)

Does anyone but me find this unspeakably hilarious?

The Ballad of Serenity
by Sonny Rhodes

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me.

Leave the men where they lay
They'll never see another day
Lost my soul, lost my dream
You can't take the sky from me.

I feel the black reaching out
I hear its song without a doubt
I still hear and I still see
That you can't take the sky from me.

Lost my love, lost my land
Lost the last place I could stand
There's no place I can be
Since I've found Serenity

And you can't take the sky from me.

Words cannot express how much I adore this poor, marvelous, canceled show.

Remember us all when we got here?

We're like that Offspring song now, I swear...
House: Everybody does stupid things. It shouldn't cost them everything they want in life.
Cuddy: No it shouldn't, but it usually does.
- from House, M.D., Season 1, "Sports Medicine"

I know I was born a woman, but I feel like a pomegranate.

I'd like the requisite surgeries, please.
Okay, look. I need a yogi. Surely one of you knows of a good yogi. Isn't that what globalization is supposed to do for me?

Also, I need yogurt. (This may, on the surface, appear to be related to my desire for a yogi, but I assure you that it is not. Yet.)

You know what one of the most irritating things in life is?

Having to scrape someone else's gum off the bottom of your shoe.

Love Alive
by Heart

The sky was dark this morning
When I raised my head
I stood at the window
Darkness was my bane

Suddenly a sunbeam arc
Thrilled me to my weary heart
It was the prettiest thing
I'd ever seen

I knew I had to keep my love,
Keep my love alive
Keep my love,
Keep my love alive

Baby I want you to roll me
Hold me in your love
No more habits, promises and jive
Ever since I was a baby girl
Wanted one thing most in this world
It was to keep my love,
Keep my love alive

I want to keep my love,
Keep my love alive
Keep my love,
Keep my love alive

You're up there under the spotlight
Your silver trophy shines
With all you got, my lord!
You must get high
You need a whole lot more than money
You need more than to survive
You need to keep your love
Keep your love alive

The Eagle and the Hawk
by John Denver

I am the eagle, I live in high country
In rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky
I am the hawk and there's blood on my feathers
But time is still turning, they soon will be dry
And all those who see me, and all who believe in me
Share in the freedom I feel when I fly

Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain tops
Sail o'er the canyons and up to the stars
And reach for the heavens and hope for the future
And all that we can be and not what we are...

I believe that we can be better. All of us.
I love this man truly and endlessly.

Look! It's seasonally inappropriate! Cool!

Winter
by Tori Amos

Snow can wait
I forgot my mittens
Wipe my nose
Get my new boots on
I get a little warm in my heart
When I think of winter
I put my hand in my father's glove
I run off
Where the drifts get deeper
Sleeping beauty trips me with a frown
I hear a voice
"You must learn to stand up for yourself
'Cause I can't always be around"
He says
When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change, my dear

Boys get discovered as winter melts
Flowers competing for the sun
Years go by and I'm here still waiting
Withering where some snowman was
Mirror, mirror, where's the crystal palace?
But I only can see the myself
Skating around the truth who I am
But I know, dad, the ice is getting thin

When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change my dear

Hair is grey
And the fires are burning
So many dreams
On the shelf
You say, I wanted you to be proud of me
I always wanted that myself

He says
When you gonna make up your mind
When you gonna love you as much as I do
When you gonna make up your mind
Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses have gone ahead
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change
My dear

If only we didn't all only hear what we wanted to hear. If only we could really be objective. But then, would the world be better, or would it be completely heartless?

I can't tell; I'm not objective. :P

Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.

The troubles of my heart have multiplied;
free me from my anguish.

Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.

See how my enemies have increased
and how fiercely they hate me!

Guard my life and rescue me;
let me not be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you.

May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope is in you.

- Psalm 25:16-21 (NIV)

It was suggested that I read these verses. Should I feel better now?

If You're Going Through Hell
by Rodney Atkins

Well, you know those times when you feel like
There's a sign there on your back.
Says: "I don't mind if you kick me;
"Seems like everybody has."
Things go from bad to worse:
You think they can't get worse than that then they do.

You step off the straight an' narrow,
An' you don't know where you are.
Use the needle of your compass,
To sew up your broken heart.
Ask directions from a genie,
In a bottle of Jim Bean an' she lies to you.

Well, that's when you learn the truth:
If you're goin' through hell,
Keep on goin'
Don't slow down
If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out,
'Fore the devil even knows you're there.

Well, I've been deep down in that darkness,
I been down to my last match.
Felt a hundred different demons,
Breathin' fire down my back.
An' I knew that if I stumbled,
I'd fall right into the trap that they were layin', yeah.

But the good news is there's angels,
Everywhere out on the street.
Holdin' out a hand,
To pull you back up on your feet:
The one's that you been draggin' so long,
You're on your knees; you might as well be prayin'.

Guess what I'm sayin':
If you're goin' through hell,
Keep on goin'.
Don't slow down:
If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out,
'Fore the devil even knows you're there.

Yeah, if you're goin' through hell,
Keep on movin'.
Face that fire:
Walk right through it.
You might get out,
'Fore the devil even knows you're there.
Oooh.

Instrumental break.

If you're goin' through hell,
Keep on goin'.
Don't slow down:
If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out,
'Fore the devil even knows you're there.

Yeah, if you're goin' through hell,
Keep on movin'.
Face that fire:
Walk right through it.
You might get out,
'Fore the devil even knows you're there.

Yeah, you might get out,
'Fore the devil even knows you're there.
Yeah.
Ooh, ooh ooh.
Oh.

I usually find this song slightly disturbing, but at the moment it's quite inspiring!
It would be so spectacular if everyone I know could just grow up and/or communicate properly.

(I suppose I need to include myself in that as well.)
